KX-P1124 Disk Labels
Version 2.0
********************** Note ***************************
Version 2 adds support for 3.5" disks.
For details, read the section dealing with
the upgrade below.

9-10-90
For years I have used a disk labeling program to help me keep
track of all my disks. Recently, however, I purchased a new
Panasonic KX-P1124 printer. Now that program won't work
correctly. This frustrated me because I have a large collection
of disks and it was difficult to keep them organized. I wrote
this program to fill this need. This program requires a KX-P1124
printer and uses 4" x 1 7/16" labels ( Avery #4146 ) to print the
contents of a floppy disk. The program will print up to 60 files
on one label. If there are less that 20 files, the program will
print the following: file name, extension, file size, and file
date. If there are less than 40 files on a disk, the program will
print file name, extension, and size. If there are more than 40
files, only the file name and extension will be printed. Although
I haven't tested this program on other printers, it should work
on any printer that will emulate an Epson LQ-2500 24 pin printer.
To use this program, type "DLABEL" from the command line. A
window will pop up with a list of available floppy drives on your
system. Using the arrow keys, simply select a drive and press
ENTER to print a label. Make sure that the printer is online and
a disk is in the drive or the program may abort.

Revisions for version 1.5
Version 1 contained some bugs in the printer functions. The printer
would always return a not ready message. This has been fixed.
I have also added some routines that remove the cursor from the
window, this makes things less confusing. In the future I may add
support for 3 1/2 inch disks, if there is enough interest. Please
let me know.

Revisions for version 2.0
Version 2 adds support for 3.5" x 15/16" and 2 3/4" x 2 3/4"
labels. These can be used on 3.5 inch disks. I have been using
Avery #4145 labels to test the revision but you can probably use
any other brand because this is a common size. To select the new
label size, simply use the space bar to toggle between the three
sizes. With the new label sizes here are the new format rules:
3.5" x 15/16" labels:
Only 28 files can fit on a label.
Disks with fewer than 14 files will
print the filename, file size, and date.
Disks with fewer than 21 files will only
print filenames and file size. If a disk
has over 28 files on it, the program will
advance to the next label and continue printing.
If there are over 112 files on a disk, then
it will take over 4 labels to list all of the
files and I cannot predict the results you will
have with label alignment.
2 3/4" x 2 3/4' labels:
Up to 75 files can fit on a label.
Disks with fewer than 26 files on them
will print the filename, filesize, and date.
Disks with 50 or less file will print the
filename and filesize.
Use Avery #4241.
In version 2, I also have improved the error handling functions.
The program should always report the proper status of the disk
drives and the printer. For the next revision I am considering
doing some major modifications to speed up the program. As the
program stands now, It is very S-L-O-W. Please let me know if
there are any suggestions for other improvments. I have appreciated
the feedback and support that users have given me.
